About

I’m Jess, the artist behind J. MacDonald Art. Based in Acharacle in the Highlands of Scotland, I’ve lived in Scotland for the past 20 years, and the landscapes and wildlife around me have become a big part of my work.

Living in the Highlands means I’m surrounded by landscapes and wildlife that naturally find their way into my work. I’m drawn to the coast, water, and the scenery around me. I’m constantly inspired by the sea, the lochs, and those amazing sunsets that light up the Highland skies.

Landscape Paintings and Wildlife Drawings

Landscape painting is now a big part of my work, with most of my landscapes created in oils. I enjoy painting the coast, water reflections and capturing the different character of each place.

I also create detailed wildlife drawings using coloured pencils. I originally started out with pet portraits, which is where my love of drawing animals began before my work gradually developed into landscape painting.

Drawing digitally on my iPad gives me a chance to mix things up and work in a completely different style. I create bold prints using fun colours and simple graphic designs, as well as illustrations of places, pets and other ideas that I enjoy bringing to life.

I like being able to switch between traditional and digital work, depending on what I want to create.
